Day 1 Fri. 18 Feb.
Gold at end of day: 24g31s94c
Startup funds: questing (2 toons): 20s51c
Sold in trade chat: Lovely Charm Bracelet 5g
Done:
-rolled 2 human hunters (no, I didn’t need to; no, I don’t want to talk about it)
-rolled Draenei priest and got recipe: roasted moonglaze tenderloin; took 1 hour and 7minutes, including getting stuck in the support poles of the fishing shack by the river, getting unstuck by hearthing back to Ammen Vale, and running back again (no, I don’t want to talk about that, either); I thought Wowhead said L6 is needed, but I got the quest at L5
-scanned AH 3x
-started tracking a few items in Market Watcher
-posted vendor items (herbs, recipes, herb pouch, fishing rods, copper rod)
-bought and posted startup items (low level herbs, rough stone, linen, wool, potions)
-updated my herb lists to include the relevant pigments and inks – there may be some opportunity there, though I suspect it will be irregular, as on my home server
-earned 10 Love Tokens on each of 2 toons
Discovered:
-I can fly for free from Goldshire to SW, saving a few minutes of running, woot!
- I’m already getting a discount when buying from vendor!
Biggest mistake, part 1: believing the Blizz tooltip that said “Gift for the King of Stormwind” gives 2g35s quest reward.....Biggest mistake, part 2: turning in quest, even though I’d seen that it was only going to give me 35c AND I’d already noticed some lovely charm bracelets being offered for sale in trade chat. Sigh.
Wow moments:
-my first sales!
Chunk of boar meat (x2) 4s42c
Linen cloth (x4) 24s80c * not undercutting
-LOVELY CHARM BRACELET SOLD FOR 5g!!!!!!!! OK, I am NOT going farming, I’m going to play the auction house! (and that extra time spent collecting charms was worth it after all)
MGB Principles in action:
-people really will buy almost anything. Chunk of boar meat is a quest item (4 needed) in the human starter zone. The drop rate is high so it never occurred to me that somebody would buy it! I should have posted it at a higher price….(But nobody’s bought my refreshing spring water yet.)
-and I’ve sold 2 fishing poles!
-having Buy lists (Auctioneer) makes it so quick to look at a segment of the market.
Things I’ve learned:
-recording / tracking IS fast and easy when you enter it on the computer, instead of writing it on pieces of paper; AND I even figured out that I need to track purchase and posting prices per item, since that’s how I’m selling them (I’ll record stack prices when I’m selling stacks) Yay!
-hehe, now I know how the Search(Vendor) function in Auctioneer works! It’s comparing prices to the lowest bid price! I could never figure out how I was supposed to make a profit when the buyout price was higher than the vendor price….I know how to filter it too, woot
Surprises:
-herbs don’t have the price spread I’m used to seeing, although the supply is large
-in fact, most of my starter items didn’t have a big price spread. hmm......
Lows:
-I’ve had a fever all week and my organization and decision making skills tanked; I made a lot of “small” errors, wasting time and silver (but hopefully not gold) bleah
-Beancounter is not registering all of my sales (e.g. most recent sale, Keen throwing knife). This was an issue for me for a long time, and has worked fine since Cata, so very disappointing. I’m beginning to wonder if it’s some kind of lag…Since Beancounter doesn’t pick up items until they’ve been removed from my mailbox, does data sometimes get lost as the mailbox is being cleared? Double bleah.
Goals:
-keep some gold rolling in (vendor/LS and ?)
-keep scanning AH and looking for pipeline possibilities, adding some items to Market Watcher (try for 1 per niche? Check glyphs, herbs, flasks)
My server:
I chose this server without research, because there’s a guild on it that I want join. I was wondering what I it would be like, since I couldn’t find a census. Blizz calls is a medium population PvE server. It was very quiet during the day and is buzzing with activity tonight. Many of the items I expected to have a wide range of prices don’t …. For example, there are 600 of each NR herb and 3000 of each Cata herb posted, with little variation between high and low prices. Starter items (e.g. copper ore, wool cloth) don’t seem to be moving very fast.

Re: trexrabbit, Icecrown US
Thanks for the effort you've put forward to make a very detailed report. Based on what I've seen, these are the sorts of reports that help others in the MGB forums the most... there tend to be tidbits in these that will "turn on a light bulb" for various folks, helping them past particular obstacles or reminding them about something that they have forgotten.
The effort is greatly appreciated... thanks for taking the time!

Day 2 Sat. 19 Feb.
End of Day: 46g
Total Earned: 186 (auctions) + 40 (chocolates and charm bracelet) = 226g
* For me, this is fantastic and I am very happy ?
* On my regular server, I make 500 – 1000g daily from glyph sales, but I make all of the glyphs, so I’m not using the MGB method….and I haven’t a single pipeline.
My goal for GSR V: Develop one pipeline!
Progress: I’m moving away from vendor items and “maybe this will work items”, to MGB style pipeline testing ?
Eureka moments:
-I CAN find pipeline prospects! After puttering around for far too long, I followed Jon’s advice: “Do what I do”. I watched his day 2 videos, and searched every herb for similar situations (thankfully, I have them all on Auctioneer “buy” lists, so it’s quick to “find all” in each group). I’m starting with (gromsblood), and watching a couple more.
-2 of the trial pipelines that I had earlier found by myself (eternium ore and light leather) are beginning to flow!
WoW moment:
Selling a lovely charm bracelet in trade. Somebody who was also selling them decided to give me 2 more to sell. and 10 twilight jasmine. and 10 cinderbloom! (I know I’m not supposed to be given money, but I don’t know this person, I didn’t beg on the street corner, and it was entirely his idea). As a good goblin wanna be: get the gold anyway you can?
Good deed:
I had a customer for a lovely charm bracelet. He asked me to wait and rushed off to the nearby weapon vendor, where it looked like he was figuring out what he could sell. He ended up with only 4.5 gold, so I gave him the bracelet. and 1g
I learned:
Data recording – progressed from text document to spreadsheet, with tracking for quantities vs time as well as purchase / posting / sales info. Now that I’m into the pipeline development stage, it seems too unwieldy and clumsy, so I’ll try something new tomorrow.
I feel confident that I can reach my goal – and set new ones!

Pipeline / Purchogram
and began applying it to starter pipelines
-tried several ways of
recording data
and finally pared it down to a small amount per item that I can easily read
-used
Undermine Journal
to get information about items
NEW GOALS:
-develop pipelines for items with a target buy price of 5-25g

RESULTS: WEEK 2
Results Week 2. Saturday 5 March, 2011
Total Earned: 15096g
Daily: 1006g
WOW! I never expected to make this much. And now I understand how to use MGB!
HEHE, I've exceeded my revised goal for amount of gold to earn.
New Goals:
1) make 28,000g total
2) develop pipelines in the Buy range of 25-50g
3) Darkmoon Faire ... use restocking software; see how much I can make from this event.
4) Maybe install and configure Amalgam's suggestion for inventory control....or maybe set it up on my main server.

RESULTS: WEEK 3
Results Week 3. Saturday 12 March, 2011
Total gold acquired: 34,467 (+ 3794g since yesterday)
Average gold per day: 1567
Scans: 00:06, 12:09 (late), 18:58, 00:04 (next before 12:02)
** REPORTING DAY…..WOW, I NEVER THOUGHT I’D MAKE THIS MUCH GOLD!!!!!!!
*Darkmoon Faire
NEW GOALS? hmmm.....Can I make it to 50,000g? Keep on developing pipelines and Buy lists to use on my main server.
TODAY’S ISSUE
Only sold 200g worth overnight. It’s the weekend again, guess I have to adjust my sell prices – and buy prices - downwards.
>> post conservatively: twice my buy price, unless market is considerably higher than that.
ACTIONS
* I don’t like using Appraiser – can’t cancel auctions from this tab, too much info for me
** back to using Auctionator to sell items in inventory and buy more.
-Enables me to cancel and repost quickly.
-SET tooltip Sales prices ON in Auctioneer, so that I can see my mean Buy (and Sell) prices
-Use Auctionator Sell tab to post what I have in stock
-Post @ twice mean buy price, unless market is much higher
-post with regard to stack size….check stacks needed for what item is used for (Wowhead)…..this is the only info not on the tooltip, but I can see it in my auctions that haven’t sold
DSA BUY LISTS
* MAIN DSA SPREADSHEET EXAMPLE (from a couple of days ago)
-Sort by Market Capacity, descending;
-Low between 5 and 50 (my Target Buy price);
-Sales Volume >= 10;
-Listing Volume <= 50;
-market width >= 100%;
-sell rate >= 45%;
-AH category not Armor or Weapon
-Name not pigment or ink
** STACK DSA SPREADSHEET EXAMPLE
**This spreadsheet doesn’t have a market capacity column. I added “Apparent Market Width” Column, which is: (High – Low)/Low, as a %
-Sort spreadsheet on Apparent Market Width and SAVE.
-Stack size 20;
-Low <= 2 (Target Buy price);
-High >= 4 (Target Sell price);
-Total Sales >= 10 ………. not needed
-Total Listed <= 50 ……….this would eliminate everything, so don’t set it
-Sell Rate >= 45% …………. not needed
-AH category not Armor or Weapon…………not needed
-Name not pigment or ink….. not needed
>> 13 Items >> 2 already on Buy lists >> 11 new items, bought 3
How to use this list? Buy items <=2g and sell for minimum of 4g
Interesting: many of these are not selling in stacks of 20, but I did find some new potential pipelines!
GLYPH MARKET
* I have discovered a faster way to work in the glyph market, which has been making me 500-800g a day on my main server, but takes more than an hour a day and is tedious (making glyphs on demand to replace those that have sold)
a) search glyphs by class and buy glyphs @ <= 6g (except for those that don’t sell well) (NB. @ 0.5g per herb, I can make a glyph for 6g)
b) post @ 24g…..if I get too many of one glyph, I can drop to 18 or 12g
c) post 1 glyph high (165g) to pull market up when it drops below 24g
d) use Beancounter to identify the glyphs that I can make that have sold well (high price + regular sales) ……make those that I can’t buy for <= 6g
e) use Undermine Journal to identify other good glyph possibilities

Total gold acquired: 63,180
(63,179.7831g)
(63,143.3213 alliance AH + 36.4618 Booty Bay AH)...I don't think it's cross faction to buy and sell directly on the BB AH, is it?

Day 3
Feb. 20, Day 3.
End of day: 373g
My plan for today was
(a)to pick up stocks of herbs at low prices
(b)develop one pipeline
These goals are based on Jon’s day 3 of GSR4.
Herb prices are not very encouraging: the range of prices for many herbs is small. Most herbs have a great deal of supply. I was able to buy and post a few, and buy some to post later in the week when the price goes up (hopefully).
I ran out of time to develop a pipeline. Wool cloth, eternium ore, gromsblood and light leather are not providing low priced stacks to buy. I started looking at gems. I made a spreadsheet to track prices and amounts, using UJ information. (similar to Vektor’s original spreadsheet, but with less information because his had too much for me to grasp). I also meant to post a lot of vendor items, to ensure cash flow and move me towards my next goal, 1000g available to test medium priced (25g) pipelines. Again, I ran out of time.
Sold:
Wool cloth
Yellow moth egg
White moth egg
Light leather………….restock at 80s > post 2g50
(85g)
Mithril ore
Twilight jasmine
(Elixir of Lion’s strength)*
(minor healing potion)
(rough stone)
(stringy wolf meat)
dreaming glory
mana thistle
cat carrier (Cornish rex)
cat carrier (Bombay)
(38g > 195g in hand)
copper rod
(9g)
herb pouch
(rough stone)
(refreshing spring water)
(7g)
recipe: bristle whisker catfish
(5g)
gromsblood
cat carrier (silver tabby)
lesser magic essence
pattern: blue overalls
terocone
lesser magic essence
yellow moth egg
super healing potion
wool cloth
(silverleaf)
goldthorn
cinderbloom
rugged leather
peacebloom

-don’t buy anything posted @ <1g (see following)

Re: trexrabbit, Icecrown US
Interested to see if your Nightmare Vine and GMEs move at those prices.
As far as your lowbie scrolls, you may have better success Tuesday and Friday-Saturday. More people online playing alts and running around doing whatever.
Those are some good prices on Eternium and Goldthorn, wow.
The format for your potential pipelines section is a bit tough to read, though I do like how you are appending a note on the end. Perhaps some solid seperators between them will clean them up a bit. I don't know, I 'd have to play around with it.

Amalgam notes
Hey Amalgam,
Thanks for the reply! I'll keep a closer eye on the items you pointed out.
Yes, I know it's hard to read. I'm finally concentrating on pipelines, and have figured out what I need to record and how to do it. Yes, I've already started to space between them, for my own benefit too! It may still be hard to get the details (I find it's always easier to understand my own reporting system, than other people's, no matter how simple), but hopefully better!

** Feb. 27
Nope, the Eternium and GME's are not worthwhile pipelines.
I'm pursuing Goldthorn and Nightmare Vine, but those prices were one time only!
