The Gold Speed Run main event is now over, as of midnight local time on Saturday December 17th. Final results are now due from all challengers.

But...

There's actually still one more phase of the Speed Run, although it's completely optional: the Sell-Off week.

The idea here is to reward the speed runner who has been the most efficient and achieved the greatest profit margin amongst all challengers. The winner will not
necessarily be from among the top overall gold-getters. This added challenge is scored by calculating the percentage of your Gold Acquired that you have been able to convert into actual Gold-in-Hand, by the end of the sell-off period.

The sell-off competition and award is open to any challenger who has acquired at least 5,000 gold by the end of regular play on Dec 17th. During the sell-off, you will continue playing the auction house for an additional 5 days... but selling only. You can't buy anything (no matter how good a bargain!).

The sell-off period begins immediately, and continues to the end of the day (local time) on Thursday December 22nd. We're not doing a full week-long sell-off this time...
it's too close to Christmas.

The calculation is simple:

 ** Gold-in-Hand divided by Gold Acquired, x 100

The more you sell over the next 5 days, the higher your percentage score will be. A great score would be anything over 45%.

The winner of the Efficiency Award will receive the same prize as the winners of the regular Single-Faction Challenge and Cross-Faction Challenge events.

Hi Jon

This is another new one for me, so I thought I'd give it a go.

Quick question though, how do we report this on Thursday night. Is it just a screen shot of the usual Gold acquired screen with maybe our main bag open in the screen shot so you can see how much gold on hand we have, or can you get all the information off the usual screen shot.

Let me know Smiley

Hey Maglin - it would be ideal if you could capture the Gold Acquired screen with either your bag or the auction house browse screen also showing, with your gold-in-hand. Or just post two separate screen shots to show both.

Good luck!

Jon - is it allowed to mail the contents of our alts to our main?  Also, OK to transfer their gold before deleting them?

No big deal with my numbers but my best toon is L21 and while he is selling, I think I will try to roll a DK so that I don't have to level up my main in order to change Realms w/my little bit of $$, (not by my standards).

Thanks for a very informative and fun time. I suppose you must be disappointed in a number of ways, but most of us aren't.

I will continue on with the MGB and get really rich !

Thanks...

Yes, it's definitely fine to mail everything in to one toon, including their accumulated gold.

I'm glad you had a good Speed Run, I'm sure you'll find it pays long-term benefits by improving your whole experience of the game over time!

I don't understand. Where did all the gold go?

Even if I sell everything I have on hand without taking a loss (which for the volatiles seems unlikely) I'm only going to be sitting at around 28kg on hand. At best, I'm going to be sitting at about 40% efficiency. What happened to the other 60%? Did I really lose that much gold?

You did not lose gold, its the average margin you gained on the total of your sales.

For example you buy Volatile Water for 5g and sell at 7.5g (thats a 50% margin)

If you buy a Pristine Hide for 300g and sell for 400g your maiking about (33%)

The idea is to sell items past the 100% Margin (prices and percentages above do not take into account AH fees)

Keep in mind, though, that a 100% margin isn't practical to maintain across the board. Around 40% is actually a pretty good efficiency rating for a GSR.

That makes a lot more sense. Wait. No it doesn't. So, what does the wealth tab mean again?

The wealth tab gives you an indication of how much currency that you have actually had pass through the toons account.  So if you can get 40% of all the gold that your toon has touched then you are actually doing really well.

wealth = sales thru AH, profit = gold in hand at end Smiley A common mistake in a lot of small businesses - getting sales & profits muddled up lol but 40% profit margin on average is pretty damn good tbh, mine is going to be nearer 35% at moment.

I must admit, I'm having some troubles selling off a lot of my stuff so I think I'll be lucky if I hit 30% lol

My sell off. Don't forget I ignorantly sold 2 Guardian Cubs for 3,000+ G each, illegally. Just dumb and didn't know better.
